Belzona Shaft Repair on Commercial Mixer in Food Production Facility

Problem

The Client, operating a Food Production facility in Mississauga, Ontario. Had a large scale, horizontal mixer experiencing advanced wear on several output shafts. Subsequently, the mechanical seals were unable to perform due to the damage, causing both product leakage and potential contamination. The equipment was apiece of legacy hardware that had previously been retrofitted and repaired using an unknown product.

Application Situation

Upon inspection, it was determined that due to the sheer size of the mixer, it’s location within the facility, along with the cost associated in disassembly and transport. That they were unable to suffer the necessary downtime and sought a repair in place solution from Belzona.

Application Method

Surface prep was completed using a combination of Sanding Strips, Grinders, and Manual Filing tools. The area was then taped off to prevent excess product from curing on the unaffected shaft areas. This repair was completed using a custom printed 3D mold, coated with Belzona 9411 Release Agent The Molds were then used in conjunction with Belzona 1311 to compete the repair using the proper Forming Technique.
